Our approach

Free a Girl India supports Sanlaap, Freedom Firm, Shakti Vahini, Odanadi and Apne Aap.

Free a Girl India fights against human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) and mobilises resources in the project countries itself. Free a Girl India does this by raising awareness about the problem of CSEC and the impunity of offenders. We believe there is a need to change the conversation, to mobilise society to rally behind the girls that have fallen victim to this crime, and to demand justice. It is important to break the silence in many countries about CSEC and the need to prosecute the offenders. It is important that local individuals and companies contribute to the fight against CSEC.

We are focusing on major cities in which there are large red light districts and Free a Girl India’s local allies and partners work: Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Bangalore, Mysuru (Mysore) and Kolkata (Calcutta). Free a Girl India will draw attention to the widespread impunity of the offenders (traffickers, pimps, brothel-owners and customers) but also to the need to change societal norms around CSEC through the School for Justice.

Anupam Kher – Bollywood Actor

“When women are empowered they immeasurably improve the lives of everyone around them; their families, their communities, their country. This problem of child prostitution is not just about women. We men need to recognise and change the part we play too.”

Neela Satyanarayana – Retired State Election Commissioner

“Child trafficking and child prostitution hurt the soul of mankind. I see my own children in the faces of victims. We should never forget that these victims are also somebody’s children. They have a right to enjoy their childhood just like other children. We should all join hands in preventing these crimes and also rehabilitating the unfortunate victims.”
